Review & Description

A 911 hang-up. A dead body on the kitchen floor. A noise from the garage. No time to wait for backup. Officer Jack Fillion kicks in the door and discovers a remarkable creature, an intelligent ape able to communicate with humans through modern technology. An animal that is frighteningly close to being human. An animal with human-like emotions including jealousy. And rage.

A sample:

From behind the SUV, I peeked at the front door. A breeze kicked up and I saw the front door move. Just a little like it was ajar and moved by the wind.

I looked around me to make sure there wasn't anyone out there with me that I missed. I crept back up between the garage and SUV while double-checking the vehicle for any occupants. But the windows were heavily tinted and I really couldn't see anything without turning on my flashlight, which I didn't want to do. From inside the garage, I heard something moving around. I reached for my gun but then let it go.

I guess I was a little spooked being back on nights. So far I really didn't have anything. We had a 911 hang up with no sounds of a disturbance or anyone in distress. I had a noise in the garage that could have been anything including the homeowner. I walked to the side of the house and peeked in a window. It was a bedroom that appeared in perfect order. The bed was made and everything. Hell, I wanted to break the window, climb in and sleep in the bed myself.

The hell with this, I thought. I walked around to the front door and intentionally knocked with enough force to open the door all the way.

"Hello! Cypress City Police!" That was all I said before I saw the legs.

From Flash Rex, the author of Megalodon Lives.

I Ape is a novelette of approximately 12000 words.

An excerpt of Megalodon Lives is included.
